A brief introduction to yourself?
My name is Alex Khakhula. I am 29 years old. I was born in Lviv, Ukraine, and still, live and work here.
How did you develop your fondness for karate?
I started training karate thanks to my friends when I was 11 years old. They offered me to join them and I agreed.
What drew you to Karate out of all other sports?
I chose karate out of all other sports because it is a very dynamic sport where you can hit with arms and legs and use throwing techniques.
What is your style and what rank do you currently hold in karate?
I am a Master of sports in Ukraine.
What was the highest prize you won?
Best results: Winner of Ukrainian championship; Bronze medalist of European championship among students 2013, Budapest; Silver medalist of World Cup in Lasko 2014, Slovenia.
What do you like more Kata or Kumite?
I have never learned Kata. Only Kumite.
Do you have a favorite Sensei?
My first and the only coach is Anton Nikulin.
How did you get to this position and how was your journey being in this sport?
I was always moving forward despite all obstacles and challenges.
Do you take karate as your profession or is it just a hobby?
Karate is not only my profession it is all my life.
Who’s been an inspiration for you throughout your sports journey?
Many factors inspired me throughout my sports journey. My father was always my biggest support.
What challenges did you come across on getting where you are at today?
You can share any injury story as well.
I faced a lot of different challenges on my way. I had many injuries. Such as arms and legs fractures and others. The most unpleasant was to gain an injury right before going on the competition. Once I broke my hand playing catches on training the day before the competition. It was really sad. Then injury after injury followed me for 2 years.
What motivates you the most about your profession as an athlete?
What motivates me about my profession in hazard. Desire to become better and to win.
What are your strengths as both an athlete and as a person?
My biggest strengths as a person and athlete are persistence and endurance. I always fight till the end.
Do you have something you want everyone to learn?
I would advise everyone not to give up and believe in themselves.
