A short introduction to yourself?
My name is Ali Zand. I am 22 years old and I am a national karate player from Iran and I am a world and Asian medalist. I do karate in the category senior team and individual kata.
How did you develop your fondness for your sport and at what age did you start learning karate?
I started karate when I was 4 years old and my uncle and father were interested in me.
What is your style and what rank do you currently hold in?
I am a kata player in the team and individual kata and I have 3 medals in the asian championship and bronze medal in the world senior championship and 5 medals in the world karate1 league.
What do you like Kata or Kumite more?
I like kata because I think it’s the spirit of karate and it has many different techniques.
Do you have a favorite Sensei?
My favorite sensei are my coach Ghasem shahrjerdi and sensei sakumoto.
How did you get into this position and how did your journey in this sport go?
I got into karate at the invitation of my uncle and father, and after a while, I became interested in kata, and finally, at the age of 14, I became a member of the national team in the junior age category and won the Asian bronze medal.
Do you take sports as a profession or is it just a hobby?
At the beginning of my sports life, it was like a hobby but now it’s my profession and it is a big part of my life during my days.
What challenges have you faced in getting to where you are now? You can also share any injury story.
In professional sports life, it’s normal that you have many challenges and for me, it is the same. I remember when we were preparing for the world league in Paris and when we were practicing on our bonkai I was injured from my shoulder and after that, we experienced a lot of stress but finally, we succeeded to be a medalist in the Paris and we backed to Iran with a bronze medal.
What motivates you most about your profession as an athlete?
I always try to be motivated in all fields and sports I always think of success and effort and my goal in sports always motivates me.
Do you have anything you want everyone to learn?
In my opinion, the only things that can make a person successful are effort, hope, and a positive mind.
What tournament or match you have won are you most proud of and why?
I am more proud of my bronze medal in the 2018 World senior Championships because it is the highest level and most prestigious competition in karate after the Olympics. Also, this medal was the first medal in the history of Iranian karate in the men’s senior team kata, which I won after 43 years. I got it and registered my name in the history of Iranian karate.
