Ana Laura
Ana Laura is a Jiu-Jitsu athlete.
A short introduction to yourself?
My name’s Ana Laura. I am a first-grade elementary student and I am also a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu fighter.
What sports do you practise?
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
How did you develop your fondness for your sport and at what age did you start learning?
I am a very agitated child and my parents thought that it would be a good idea to get to run off some of my energy. And then we found out about a social project in the city where I live. In this city, I had my first class. I was 5 years old at the time. I liked it very much and I asked my mom to come back. I am still taking classes over there.
What is your style and what rank do you currently hold in?
I am the youngest competitor in my category. My last title is Open Brasília International. My fighting style is guard pass.
What do you like about Kata or Kumite more?
Kumite.
Do you have a favourite Sensei?
Yes, Cristiano Brandão, my master.
How did you get into this position and how did your journey in this sport go?
I train daily and my master has seen potential in me. I had signed up for all the fighting tournaments that my team was on. In the beginning, we didn’t find other adversaries in my category and that’s why I won two medals by W.O. But I didn’t give up till I could find my adversaries. Finally, I had the chance to fight with my adversaries and then I won three medals: two gold medals and one silver medal. I am gonna attend one tournament in which I will get the missing piece of my medal puzzle.
Do you take sports as a profession or is it just a hobby?
As a profession.
What challenges have you faced in getting to where you are now? You can also share any injury story.
As a very agitated girl, I have always needed my father’s help so I could train at home and devise strategies as well. I have had only a few marks on my body that I got in my training.
What motivates you most about your profession as an athlete?
My family and my team motivate me a lot. They are always motivating me so I can get to be the best version of myself.
Do you have anything you want everyone to learn?
My mom always tells me that God has prepared everything. She wants me to put into practice what I have learned and have faith that God will take care of everything else. I believe in it.
What tournament or match you have won are you most proud of and why?
I am very proud of my first medal. It was a silver medal, but I got the chance to learn a lot.
