Cassia Domingos Carvalho Success Story
Cassia Domingos Carvalho an athlete.
A short introduction to yourself?
My name is Cassia Domingos Carvalho and I’m 35 years old.
How did you develop your fondness for your sport and at what age did you start learning karate?
I started practicing BJJ in 2016 in my husband’s gym Henrique Rivero who is my teacher and black belt, one degree.
At that time, my husband and my nineteen-year-old son invested a lot of time trying to convince and push me to BJJ. I always used to complain about the smell that comes from their sweaty kimonos. (For me it was too disgusting).
Then, one fine day he decided to start a female class in his gym which made me feel interested and curious because I would never do that with men, so I tried that once and have been practicing ever since without even thinking of stopping. My first medal practicing BJJ was in 2017 when, among other tournaments, I won the gold medal in the state championship and as a prize, the blue belt.
After some time, I got 1st place in the Brazilian Championship (category) and 2nd in the open class. Besides, I also won this year’s South American championship which made me feel over the moon.
Jiu-jitsu saves lives, it’s a powerful depression healer among so many other benefits.
What is your style and what rank do you currently hold in?
I love the style of pressure/passing and I’m a purple belt.
Cassia Domingos favorite Sensei?
My favorite sensei is my husband, Henrique Rivero.
How did you get into this position and how did your journey in this sport go?
I got into my current position in BJJ practicing a lot and winning championships.
Do you take sports as a profession or is it just a hobby?
It’s a hobby.
What challenges have you faced in getting to where you are now? You can also share any injury story.
When I suffered a sprain in my ankle, it was hard to be training properly due to the limitations of the injury.
What motivates you most about your profession as an athlete?
I don’t have a profession as an athlete but what motivates me is my passion for this martial art.
Do you have anything you want everyone to learn?
I would like everyone to learn how BJJ provides so many ways of self-defense that are extremely useful in some cases.
What tournament or match you have won are you most proud of and why?
The tournament I won I’m most proud of is the South American championship because it was my first.
