A short introduction to yourself?
My name is Erick Souza, I am 23 years old, born in Manaus (AM), I am a jiu-jitsu athlete, from the GFTEAM CAVEIRA (SP) team, which is commanded by master Fran do Carmo.
How did you develop your fondness for your sport and at what age did you start learning karate?
I developed my taste in art through my father (EDINELSON PEREIRA), who watched a lot of pride on DVD a lot, I was about 11 years old, I enjoyed watching the minotaur fight, but when I started at BJJ I was 12 years old, not since then I dropped more.
What is your style and what rank do you currently hold in?
Nowadays I am a brown belt, I am in 8th in the ranking of the (IBJJF) without the gi, category medium heavy.
What do you like Kata or Kumite more?
I like to fight with and without the gi, for me, there is no difference, and my master always says, that the athlete has to be complete.
Do you have a favorite Sensei?
I have two teachers who have supported me a lot in this career as an athlete, who is master Fran do Carmo and Erick tererê.
How did you get into this position and how did your journey in this sport go?
Until I got here where I am I suffered a lot, I went through many difficulties, I even went hungry at the beginning but thank God everything has its time, today I have people who support me a lot, I have my girlfriend Solange Gonçalves who has been walking together, side by side and is my partner for everything.
Do you take sports as a profession or is it just a hobby?
I consider sport as my profession, jiu-jitsu is not just a sport, it is a lifestyle.
What challenges have you faced in getting to where you are now? You can also share any injury story.
I had an ankle injury, due to an illegal blow I suffered in a very important CBJJ championship, it was at BJJ PRÓ SÃO PAULO and it left me standing for a while.
What motivates you most about your profession as an athlete?
What motivates me most in my profession is my history.
Do you have anything you want everyone to learn?
What I have to say is, EVERYTHING HAS ITS TIME AND THAT LIFE IS ONLY HARD, FOR THOSE WHO ARE MOLE.
What tournament or match you have won are you most proud of and why?
My most important title is the BRAZILIAN team tournament (CBJJ). I was one of the chosen ones to represent the GFTEAM team, through Mestre Fran do Carmo, where I was discredited by many people but I had the support of those who believed in me, I went and managed to be a champion.
