A short introduction to yourself?
My name is Filipe de Sousa Costa, I am 14 (fourteen) years old, I am Brazilian, I am an athlete in various modalities, I live in Brasília, Distrito Federal and my favourite sport is Karate.
How did you develop your fondness for your sport and at what age did you start learning?
I started my sport’s career at the age of 9 (nine) in the sport called karate due to the observation of karate competitions and the awakening of the desire to practice the sport.
What is your style and what rank do you currently hold in (your sport).
The style that I train in Karate in Uechi-Ryu. I am currently graduated with a purple belt.
What do you like more, Kata or kumite?
Both of them.
Do you have a favourite Sensei?
Yes, I do. Her name is Maria Vera.
How did you get into this position and how did your journey in this sport go?
Due to a lot of training, a lot of dedication, a lot of effort and a lot of willpower. My trajectory is summarized in a success story (with many participants in the events, many achievements and motivating).
Do you take sports as a profession or is it just a hobby?
It is just a hobby since here in Brazil we still face many difficulties due to society’s lack of incentive in the field of sports. Therefore, I consider the sport as a personal achievement.
What challenges have you faced in getting to where you are now? You can also share any injury story.
Several challenges, among them: the financial difficulty and the lack of structure. As far as injuries are concerned, I have never suffered any.
What motivates you most about your profession as an athlete?
Knowing that with what I do, I serve as an inspiration to several people and help many people to practice some sport.
Do you have anything you want everyone to learn?
Yes, I do. I wish people would be fairer.
What tournament or match you have won are you most proud of and why?
My first competition was in the kata modality, in which, without any experience and with a white belt around my waist, I could show that effort and dedication can overcome barriers.
