Gustavo Golding Success Story
Gustavo Golding an taekwondo athlete.
A brief introduction to yourself?
Teacher with a master’s degree in parenting guidance, a social leader, and an altruistic and hard-working spirit, with 25 years teaching in primary school, father of two children, very familiar and always a defender of justice and goodness! I am currently Bosabonim II Dan founder of the Águilas del Taekwondo School registered in the I.T.F. Master Venezuela, my teacher is Sabonim Pedro Coronado VI Dan.
How did you develop your love for your sport and at what age did you start learning karate?
I fell in love with taekwondo when I heard their oath and from an experience where I defended some teachers from criminals in a protest, there were two dozen criminals, here called collectives, they knocked me to the floor and beat me, I commented to the Taekwondo teacher of my son and he told me: If you knew taekwondo, you would be able to defend yourself from that many enemies! There my history with Taekwondo began! 12 years ago!
What is your style and what rank do you currently have?
Taekwondo I.T.F. Traditional, I’m a Bosabonim II Dan.
What do you like most about Kata or Kumite?
Kata = Tul, in taekwondo, and Kumite is Matsogui, I like Tul better, but I get better performances in combat.
Do you have a favorite sensei?
My Favorite Sabonim is Sabonim Oliver Contreras, IV Dan, I like how he does his combat and his personality, we are currently friends, since I started in Taekwondo I have always been his admirer.
How did you get to this position and how was your journey in this sport?
Working and training constantly, has not been easy because in my country we are going through a deep social, economic, values crisis and where our lives are in constant danger, from all aspects, but it is adapting, using our taekwondo philosophy as a shield and to be united in the face of adversity, always helping the most defenseless.
I have participated in several parochial and regional tournaments, in two national ones, in one I won Gold in combat, in the other I took silver, I keep practicing and I hope to be able to participate in a World Cup and represent my country! Bring glory to my nation! I also dream of forming future champions in our martial art.
Do you take sport as a profession or is it just a hobby?
Initially as a hobby, but then I took it more as a way of life, it is part of me and I apply it at all times! If it weren’t for taekwondo it would be very difficult for me to overcome many obstacles and adversities.
What challenges have you faced in getting where you are now? You can also share any injury history.
Thank God I have NEVER been injured, although I fractured both of my big toes in combat, I never stopped training, then over time they welded themselves! My main challenge with Taekwondo was a season where I lost my teacher (for 2 years I was without a teacher, but I trained on my own), he was my friend, my son’s godfather, and partner. But then Sabonim Pedro Coronado VI Dan kindly received me and is currently guiding with the support of Sabonim Julio Guerrero my path to the Danes.
What motivates you the most about your profession as an athlete?
Helping others! In my country there is too much social inequality, poverty, sadness, depression, a deep loss of values, with Taekwondo we give values to children, we give support to parents and schools, and we bring hope to people who very attacked by everything point of view, social, cultural, educational, health, economy, and future.
Do you have anything you want everyone to learn?
The importance that humanity cannot be carried away by consumerism, luxuries, technology, the MUCH most important for which transcendental beings in our history have fought, such as Justice, Love, kindness, family, ecology, our children and the elderly, nature and a better future for all.
What tournament or match have you won are you most proud of and why?
National Taekwondo organized by the CHI of Venezuela, in the state of Falcón in 2015, I won gold in combat (Matsogui).
