A short introduction to yourself?
I‘m HeeJun Park. I’m a Korean national karate player.
How did you develop your fondness for your sport and at what age did you start learning karate?
At first, I did kendo. And then I started karate at my dojo sensei recommendation. I started kendo when I was in the third grade of elementary school, and karate started it when I was 14.
What is your style and what rank do you currently hold in (your sport)?
I doing shitoryu and gojuryu both. and my world rank is 20.
What do you like Kata or Kumite more?
I like Kumite (but I’m a kata player.) because Kumite is so exciting!!
Do you have a favorite Sensei?
yes. shinjo takeru sensei, shinjo sensei and hasegawa yukimitsu sensei.
How did you get into this position and how did your journey in this sport go?
In Korea, karate is very difficult. to not be popular I started studying by myself watching YouTube. And I learned it from Malaysia and Japan. It was fun to karate with many friends. It was fun and interesting to go on the world stage. So I’ve been working hard until now, dreaming of becoming a world-class player.
Do you take sports as a profession or is it just a hobby?
Job.
What challenges have you faced in getting to where you are now? You can also share any injury story.
There are not many people in Korea because karate is not popular. So everything is hard and I have to do it alone. And you have to pay for a lot of matches with karate 1. It was the hardest. But I earned money by working part-time to achieve my dream.
What motivates you most about your profession as an athlete?
It’s the father. I was able to get here because of my father’s support.
Do you have anything you want everyone to learn?
I wa
nt to learn how to cook. I want to learn how to cook and cook for my wife every day.
What tournament or match you have won are you most proud of and why?
Most recently I finished third in the Olympic qualification competition. If you ask me why I think it’s because I trained hard. It was lucky for me and a miracle.
