Jamie Nottingham is an athlete.
I have always loved fighting, wrestling and any form of Martial Arts. I was rambunctious as a young kid and slowly as I got older the Martial Arts training sank in and started to give me more control over myself. When I was a teenager I wanted to discover myself and I got heavily involved with Yoga, Meditation and Buddhism. I was spending a lot of time at monasteries and with my yoga teachers. After some years I began to feel an even deeper control and rapport with myself. Something about this new inner connection with myself drove me back into my martial arts training. I began teaching full time in a Martial Arts School and training in my spare time. Gradually I was invited to train with better and better teachers. Eventually, I got to work with some of the best in the world in almost every martial art that I chose to pursue.
I started training Brazilian Jiu-jitsu, MMA and Kickboxing when I was 13. However, the training was very informal until I was 22 when I began working and training full time. I always have loved fighting and wrestling, I remember fighting with my friends in kindergarten and my cousins on Thanksgiving just for the fun of it as a kid. I am a Brown Belt In BJJ.
I now train out of the Jiu-Jitsu Mill in Portchester NY with Coach Jordan Lutsky. I was a part of glover Teixeira’s Fight Team, as well as Fight Sports under Vagner Rocha and Cyborg Abreu. I also was briefly a part of Team 10th Planet.
My biggest achievement in the sport so far was winning Kevlar combat 185 division by submitting an IBJJF world champion and another IBJJF top ten ranked opponent. Another big achievement was winning High Rollerz Tournament with 4 submissions.
My next goal is to win my upcoming match in Strikers Kombat Leauge and showcase my boxing skills. After that, I want to win my upcoming Combat Jiu-Jitsu debut and then the middleweight Shoot Pro Wrestling Catch As Catch Can Tournament. I also plan to attempt to break the world record for the longest session of BJJ rolls as a fundraiser for charity by rolling for 32-34 hours. Within the next year or two, I am looking to earn my black belt in BJJ and place in the next ADCC trials.
I take my sport as more than a profession, it is everything to me, my income, my inspiration, my whole life been doing Martial Arts and BJJ.
I have faced many challenges, one of the hardest has been building a community of like-minded people who are truly dedicated to the martial arts and bettering themselves as people. Many people say that they are interested in training but very few are consistent. One of the hardest things, in the beginning, was people just not taking me seriously until I was given the chance to prove myself and my skills.
I am motivated to train, compete, teach and study martial arts and BJJ because I love them. To me, it is the most beautiful and fun way to pass our time together on the planet. I also love getting to express myself via fighting, there is so much art to it that often goes unnoticed.
I really would love to see everyone learn how to align their posture and relax their body so it can heal. I learned so much from yoga and tai chi about how to heal the body and I would be so happy to pass on these health-giving practices to everyone!
I am most proud of my front kick TKO at Smokerz Fights in Las Vegas.
