A short introduction to yourself?
I’m Lucas, many just call me Figueiredo, which is my last name. I’m 18 years old, I was born and still live today in Recife-PE.
How did you develop your fondness for your sport and at what age did you start learning karate?
A lot of people don’t know, but I have a chronic disease, type 1 diabetes, when I discovered this disease, after a year I started practicing jiu-jitsu when I was 13 years old to regulate my rates, and I loved what I did, I started training and dedicating myself a lot.
Do you have a favorite Sensei?
My teacher is Zé Radiola, an excellent teacher for me and my partners, I admire him a lot for everything he built and built over these years.
How did you get into this position and how did your journey in this sport go?
I believe my career is just beginning. I have many championships and experiences to live yet.
Do you take sports as a profession or is it just a hobby?
For me, I have it as my profession, because it’s something I enjoy doing and I’ve been dedicated to it.
What challenges have you faced in getting to where you are now? You can also share any injury story.
Man, I recently had a tear in my shoulder ligament, I spent almost 1 year away from training and 1 year and 6 months away from the competition. But I came back to compete again last week.
What motivates you most about your profession as an athlete?
What motivates me most are the challenges of overcoming yourself and knowing that you can try a little harder, even if you are tired, in pain, you can always do 1% more. In addition to my family, to be able to help them in any way.
Do you have anything you want everyone to learn?
think everyone should do some sport, as it opens their minds, improves their well-being, learns about respect and discipline, as well as being in communion with other people.
What tournament or match you have won are you most proud of and why?
So far I think the AJP Gramado that I fought last week, a week before I had a knee injury and I went to fight anyway and also because I had been away from competition for 1 year and 6 months, I was in 2nd place, I wasn’t completely happy, but I know my potential and be able to give my best and fight well. But every championship is a different overcoming, there is always something to learn from each competition.
