A short introduction to yourself?
My name is Maria Alice, I’m 20 years old and I live in the south of Brazil.
How did you develop your fondness for your sport and at what age did you start?
I started dancing when I was 4 years old and I’ve always had an active life. In high school, I loved doing all the sports.
What is your style and what rank do you currently hold in?
I train jiu-jitsu and I’m a purple belt.
Are you a member of any sports team? if not have you ever been?
Jiu-jitsu is an individual sport, but I see the academy where I train as a team. The team’s name is Thork.
Describe your major highlights and achievements in sports in the past.
2021 was my first year as a competitor, I took first place in several championships, but the most important was my achievement of being among the best in my state.
Are there any short-term goals you’d like to accomplish in the next few months to a couple of years?
Participate in big championships within jiu-jitsu, such as the Brazilian, European, and world championships.
Do you take sports as a profession or is it just a hobby?
Jiu-jitsu is a hobby that I want to become my profession, that’s my goal.
What challenges have you faced in getting to where you are now? You can also share any injury story.
I had to train and fight several times with injuries, the worst ones were in the knees, including one of them was during a fight, I thought about stopping right away because it was hurting a lot, but I resisted and continued fighting.
What motivates you most about your profession as an athlete?
My main motivation is that I want to win many important titles in jiu-jitsu.
Do you have anything you want everyone to learn?
I think everyone should learn about emotional intelligence and self-awareness, and jiu-jitsu helps a lot with that.
What tournament or match you have won are you most proud of and why?
The cbjje Brazilian championship, where I took third place, was one of the biggest and most difficult championships I’ve participated in and managed to climb on the podium.
