Mariano Success Story
Mariano an athlete.
A short introduction to yourself?
I’m Mariano, I’m 21 years old and I’m a Jiu-Jitsu purple belt. I am studying Physical Education and I am a Jiu-Jitsu Instructor for children.
How did you develop your fondness for your sport and at what age did you start learning?
I wanted to lose weight and I turned to jiu-jitsu as a way to do that. When I was 17 I started training and I started to like it, and I’ve already entered competitions.
What is your style and what rank do you currently hold in?
I’m a guard and I have a very active style, always looking for the opponent to fall into my traps.
Do you have a favorite Sensei?
My master, Amir Paulo. But I admire World Champion Leandro Lo. I’m inspired by it.
How did you get into this position and how did your journey in this sport go?
I’m still looking for my space in the sport, however, I’ve been 5 years in the business and I’m still fighting for it. It’s hard to maintain high performance as we also have a personal life. But I know that one day I will get there and I will live off it.
Do you take sports as a profession or is it just a hobby?
Today for me it’s a hobby and a profession, but I don’t live 100% jiu-jitsu.
What challenges have you faced in getting to where you are now? You can also share any injury story.
My biggest challenge was myself, as I sabotaged myself with a few defeats. But I didn’t give up and I’m still fighting. I also had a left knee injury in 2017 that also took me out of some training.
What motivates you most about your profession as an athlete?
My family is what motivates me the most. But the desire to win is what keeps me going today.
Do you have anything you want everyone to learn?
Everyone needs to know each other. Your body, your mind, your limits, qualities, defects. In any area of life, self-knowledge is essential.
What tournament or match you have won are you most proud of and why?
First place NOGI South American SUPER HEAVY And Third place GI SUPER HEAVY, Because I had to lose a lot of weight for the division, and I had one of my best performances and I faced good athletes.
