A short introduction to yourself?
My name is Mateus Casciano, I’m 17 years old and I’m from Lagoa de Itaenga, in the interior of Pernambuco.

What sports do you practise?
Jiu-jitsu.

How did you develop your fondness for your sport and at what age did you start learning?
It was love at first sight, when I was 16 years old a friend called me to practice and as soon as I put my feet on the mat I didn’t want to leave.

What is your style and what rank do you currently hold in?
White belt.

What do you like about Kata or Kumite more?
Finalizations.

Do you have a favourite Sensei?
My Micah Instructor shaped me and is always with me.

How did you get into this position and how did your journey in this sport go?
Hard! But I still have a lot to conquer, this is just the beginning.

Do you take sports as a profession or is it just a hobby?
A profession.

What challenges have you faced in getting to where you are now?
You can also share any injury story. I went through a lot, we don’t have any support, reaching a championship and being champion without any help was difficult and it’s been difficult, but we’re doing ours and the rewards will come

What motivates you most about your profession as an athlete?
Make more people start practising the sport and show that everyone can get wherever they want.

Do you have anything you want everyone to learn?
Jiu-Jitsu.

What tournament or match you have won are you most proud of and why?
My first championship, just to be there and see that a kid who came out of the countryside and nobody believed won his first podium and help raise the team’s name.
