Rodrigo Siqueira Success Story
Rodrigo Siqueira a karate athlete.
A short introduction to yourself?
My name is Rodrigo Siqueira, and since I was a child always liked sports, doctors also indicated that I was an overweight child.
How did you develop your fondness for your sport and at what age did you start learning karate?
I’m from Jiu-Jitsu. One of my brothers started Jiu-Jitsu long before me, one day we were at home and, he taught me two strokes and after that, I never stopped, I started training at the age of 15.
What is your style and what rank do you currently hold in?
I always liked to learn everything possible, for the moment of my struggles; I was prepared. Maybe my style is nerdy. Today I am dedicated to our students of the Alliance Mooca (Brasil, Sp). I am Brazilian vice-champion, são Paulo three-time champion, European champion, twice South American third place.
What do you like Kata or Kumite more?
“With Jiu-Jitsu” I like everything, everything is applicable.
Do you have a favorite Sensei?
Yes, I have. I admire my sensei Luciano Nucci “Casquinha” without him I wouldn’t have gotten where I am today. He is a master, friend, and mentor.
How did you get into this position and how did your journey in this sport go?
Living from the sport in Brazil is very difficult, our country does not help and that makes things more difficult. Thank God I always had help from my teacher and some companies that always believed in me.
Do you take sports as a profession or is it just a hobby?
It is my profession, Jiu-Jitsu gave me everything I have, I depend on it.
What challenges have you faced in getting to where you are now? You can also share any injury story.
There were many challenges, little food at home, I lived in favor, I lost my father, people who did not believe me, knee and shoulder injury, in the face of all this God was always this with me.
What motivates you most about your profession as an athlete?
As an athlete beat me every day, as a teacher helping human beings through sport.
Do you have anything you want everyone to learn?
Yes. That we could understand that sport saves and transforms lives.
What tournament or match you have won are you most proud of and why?
All championships and fights are remarkable to me, was when I was European Champion. When I got home my father crying told me was proud of my courage. After two years he died.
