Romana Sidhu Success Story
Romana Sidhu, a Jiu-Jitsu fighter.
A brief introduction to yourself?
My name is Romana Sidhu, I am a 40-year-old Jiu-Jitsu fighter, I am a fresh purple belt under Bruno Alves and my team is Gfteam. I currently train at Gfteam academy in San Antonio Texas under Bruno Alves, I am a very happy, funny, and outgoing person who enjoys seeing others happy.
How did you develop your fondness for Jiu-Jitsu and at what age did you start learning Jiu-Jitsu?
I started doing Jiu-Jitsu at 36 years old, I honestly never imagined how this sport was gonna change my life for good. I love everything about this sport and I just don’t want to stop and my dream is to become a black belt and share the knowledge that Professor Bruno Alves taught me.
What is your style and what rank do you currently hold in Jiu-Jitsu?
My game in Jiu-Jitsu depends on what do I need to do during my fights. I am usually a top player and I like to do takedowns. In June 2020 I made it to ranked number 1 in the World at the IBJJF as a blue belt and currently I made it to ranked 7 in the World as a purple belt in just 2 months of competing.
Do you have a favorite Sensei?
I do have an amazing Professor who always pushes his students to become the best version of themselves. He has to help me believe in my potential and understand the importance to be a successful and very respectful fighter.
How did you get to this position and how was your journey being in this sport?
I enjoy being a kids jiu-jitsu coach, it will be almost 4 years since I became a children’s coach. I love to see how our team students put so much passion into this sport and that motivates me more to do my best for them.
Do you take jiu-jitsu as your profession or is it just a hobby?
Jiu-Jitsu is my life is my profession and I am sponsored by different small businesses to keep fighting at IBJJF at many events possible.
What challenges did you come across on getting where you are at today? One of my biggest challenges that I came across during my journey is being a mother of 4 children, being a wife, being a student in the Criminal Justice field, and deal with multiple injuries that will never be a cause for me to stop following my dreams.
What motivates you the most about your profession as an athlete?
What motivates me the most are my children, they inspire me to keep going and never give up.
Do you have something you want everyone to learn?
I love to see women doing martial arts, it is such a wonderful way to keep you happy when is in your heart. Never allow failures to destroy your passions, never stop, never give up and never stop believing in yourself.
