Santiago Guerra is an athlete.
A short introduction to yourself?
My name is Santiago Guerra. I´m 20 years old and I am from Argentina.
How did you develop your fondness for your sport and at what age did you start?
I started training Jiu Jitsu when I was 11 years old and I was interested because I also did judo. And they are two similar sports and with the same philosophy.
What is your style and what rank do you currently hold in (your sport)?
I really like passing the guard but I have no problem standing guard. I am currently a brown belt under my professor Javier Cardozo.
Are you a member of any sports team? if not have you ever been?
I represent the GF Team academy which is directed by Julio Cesar Pereira, Arthur Cesar, Barauna among others professors.
Describe your major highlights and achievements in sports in the past.
1 x IBJJF World Champion 2018.
1 x IBJJF Jiu Jitsu CON Champion 2021.
2nd Place IBJJF World No Gi 2021.
3rd Place IBJJF Worlds 2021.
3rd Place IBJJF Pan Ams 2021.
3rd Place CBJJ Brazilian Nationals 2018.
1 x CBJJE World Champion 2017.
Are there any short-term goals you’d like to accomplish in the next few months to a couple of years?
My closest goals are to be able to compete in the most important tournaments abroad and in the future have my own academy.
Do you take sports as a profession or is it just a hobby?
I take the sport as a profession.
What challenges have you faced in getting to where you are now? You can also share any injury story.
The biggest challenges I face is the economic issue since it is very difficult for a jiu jitsu athlete to pay the tickets, stay, and inscriptions to championships but luckily, I always have the help of my family, training friends who help me.
What motivates you most about your profession as an athlete?
What motivates me is learning one thing every day and seeing the progress one makes to improve each day.
Do you have anything you want everyone to learn?
Yes, nothing is impossible with perseverance and effort; everything can be achieved.
