A short introduction to yourself?

My name is Sofia Azevedo, I’m 10 years old, I live in Brazil, I’m a competing athlete in jiu-jitsu and sports wrestling. I have many dreams with me one of them is to live in the USA because I know I will have more opportunities.

How did you develop your fondness for judo and jiu-jitsu and at what age did you start learning karate?

I started at the age of 7 in my neighbourhood’s social project, I fell in love with Jiu-Jitsu, and soon I started to stand out.

What is your style and what rank do you currently hold in judo and jiu-jitsu?

I love guarding! I’m being considered one of the best kids athletes in my category.

Do you have a favourite Sensei?

No, but I admire my teachers Saulo Freitas from @alliance and my teacher @edillutalivre.

How did you get into this position and how did you do your journey in this sport go?

I arrived with a lot of humility, with a lot of effort and I consider myself an athlete who will make history around the world.

Do you take sports as a profession or is it just a hobby?

In the beginning, it was just spending time, today I dedicate myself to make it my profession in the future.

What challenges have you faced in getting to where you are now? You can also share any injury story. Every day is a new challenge for me here in Brazil where athletes are not valued. But I know that through sport I will change my life and change my family history.

What motivates you most about your profession as an athlete?

God is my motivation, my mother is my inspiration. She already experienced this when she was my age and could not continue due to a lack of opportunities and finances. I will make her dream come true!

Do you have anything you want everyone to learn?

Love of neighbour.

What tournament or match you have won are you most proud of and why?

Everyone is special, but Ajp in Rio de Janeiro marked my life, I’m up two-time world champion and I’ll never forget this exciting day.
