A short introduction to yourself?
My Name is Liam Gutmacher and I am a Taekwondo Instructor and Martial Arts Content Creator on Social Media!
How did you develop your fondness for your sport and at what age did you start learning?
I started Karate at the age of 5 as an activity and after 10 years, I decided to switch to Taekwondo and have been doing it ever since!
What is your style and what rank do you currently hold in?
Currently I am a 3rd Degree Black Belt in Taekwondo and I also hold the rank of 2nd Degree Black Belt in Karate with a total of 15 years of Martial Arts Experience!
Are you a member of any sports team? if not have you ever been?
I study at Jung’s U.S. Taekwondo in Norwood Massachusetts under Master Sungho Jung and teach his students Taekwondo Skills and Education!
Do you have a favourite sports teacher?
Master Jung has been such an inspiration and leader for me and I hope to work with him for the rest of my life!
Describe your major highlights and achievements in sports in the past.
My passion is to teach and inspire the next generation and I use social media to help share my knowledge and skills about martial arts, and many of my videos have been featured on Viral Sports pages and gained Millions Of Views!
Do you take sports as a profession or is it just a hobby?
I teach Taekwondo full time and it has become my lifestyle more so than a regular job and I intend to continue working with Master Jung for the rest of my life!
What challenges have you faced in getting to where you are now? You can also share any injury story.
I have dealt with many injuries in my career; however the most difficult one that I still am recovering from to this day was a Hamstring Tear that happened in August of 2021. I was just practicing Taekwondo normally when I heard a pop sound and immediately I had pain in my left leg. Due to my responsibilities, I couldn’t completely rest and had to continue teaching everyday and I didn’t provide the right support to this injury, so it got extended almost a year. For Taekwondo Athletes, Hamstring Injuries make it so difficult to do any kicking on either side and I became depressed due to my inability to perform and exercise properly. Thankfully I began an amazing Physical Therapy program and also started Acupuncture sessions that have really helped my recovery, but even now I get soreness in my Hamstring and while that may never go away, it hasn’t stopped me from teaching and developing my Taekwondo Skills!
What motivates you most about your profession?: I want to share my experiences both positive and negative in order to help the next generation become the leaders of tomorrow and that comes with time and patience which is why I have fully invested myself into Taekwondo and I want to give back to others what it has done for me!
Do you think everybody should practise sports or do you want everyone to learn?
For anyone interested in Taekwondo, I highly recommend you try because regardless of your ability, if you try your best and have a positive mindset, then you can improve little by little and become a Martial Artist!
What tournament or match you have won are you most proud of and why?
Recently I competed at a competition in New York and placed 1st in Forms and Board Breaking Divisions and overall it was a great experience for me. In addition, one of my Board Breaking Videos got 3 Million views after posting to Social Media!
Are there any short-term goals you’d like to accomplish in the next few months to a couple of years?
I have 100K Followers on Instagram and I would like to continue growing my platform as well as expand my Youtube channel in order to reach a wider audience and continue teaching and inspiring fellow Martial Artists in this community! I also hope to open my own Taekwondo School with Master Jung and continue our partnership together!
