Success Story of Maddie Morales
A short introduction to yourself?
My name is Madison Morales, but I go by Maddie. I am also the Jiu Jitsu Princess. I am 11 and live in Kerrville, Texas where I train Jiu Jitsu and striking at my Dad’s school Fighting Chance Academy.
How did you develop your fondness for your sport and at what age did you start learning?
My Dad Ryan has always loved martial arts and started teaching us at home and then opened a school when I was 6.
What is your style and what rank do you currently hold?
Sports and traditional Jiu Jitsu. I am an advanced yellow/black belt.
Are you a member of any sports team? if not have you ever been?
Yes, Fighting Chance Academy.
Do you have a favourite sports teacher?
Ryan Morales, he is a great coachQ
Describe your major highlights and achievements in sports in the past.
I have won belts, swords, and get to compete professionally now in Jiu Jitsu. I am looking forward to my upcoming competition at ADCC in Las Vegas.
Do you take sports as a profession or is it just a hobby?
It is a profession but I want to be a pediatric orthopedic surgeon when I get older.
What challenges have you faced in getting to where you are now? You can also share any injury story.
Finding people my age, size, and skill level to compete and train with.
What motivates you most about your profession?
My team and my family motivate me and we have fun together. I also feel good when I train and like the fact that I am learning to protect myself.
Do you think everybody should practise sports or do you want everyone to learn?
I think everyone should learn a sport for their health both physically and mentally.
What tournament or match you have won are you most proud of and why?
Probably when I was 9 and won my first NAGA belt against all boys older and bigger than I was.
Are there any short-term goals you’d like to accomplish in the next few months to a couple of years
Place at ADCC in September in Las Vegas and win a couple of tournaments coming up in Texas.
